For the 17th straight year, Carl Sandburg College has received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association.

Sandburg Associate Vice President of Administrative Services/Treasurer Cory Gall informed the College’s Board of Trustees of the award during its regular monthly meeting Sept. 24. Sandburg received the award for its 2019 comprehensive annual financial report, which was submitted to the GFOA for review. The certificate recognizes excellence in governmental accounting and financial reporting.

The Board also approved a resolution providing for the issuance of up to $3.525 million in General Obligation Refunding Community College Bonds during its regular monthly meeting Thursday. This refund and restructuring of outstanding bonds will allow for the College to smooth bond payments and maintain consistent property tax rates within its district.

In other business, the Board approved the following:

  • Employment of Dylan Armstrong as public safety officer, effective Oct. 1.
  • Resignation of Kimberlee McIntire as alumni relations specialist, effective Sept. 4.
  • Resignation/retirement of custodian Sherri Sharer, effective Dec. 31.
  • Notice of intent to retire from Diane Inman, data assurance specialist, effective Sept. 30.
  • Resignation of Maddison Foster as coordinator of veterans and military services/financial aid specialist, effective Oct. 2.

The Board’s next scheduled meeting is 7 p.m. Oct. 15. Due to the coronavirus, a location has yet to be announced.
